What Is Step-n-Smartly?
Step-n-Smartly is an Internet-based health curriculum designed to increase the physical activity of students in Grades 3–5. Using an interactive Website, classes take part in a virtual “race” across their state based on the number of miles they walk each week. Teachers download relevant lessons on state history, geography, literature, and other curriculum areas (such as math, science, and visual arts). Lesson content is determined by state learning objectives and is grade specific. Every lesson also includes a health or physical activity integration, with a focus on skills such as decision making, goal setting, and analyzing influences.
